How To Pick The Ideal Vitamin And Mineral Products For Yourself

By Andrew Gregory Smith

The world of dietary supplements can be confusing, more so if you have very little understanding of what the body needs, but genuinely want to do everything you can to sustain your long-term health. Here are some pointers to ponder prior to selecting vitamin and mineral products:

First, you should notice that alternative manufacturer's supplements contain different ingredients and in varying levels. As an example, some supplements will contain recommended daily allowances, but some contain much higher, advanced dosages. Taking in insufficient dosages may provide little benefit, whereas too much could be toxic, so what is the answer?

Also, your lifestyle will play a major role in determining what quantities of vitamins and minerals you need on a day to day basis. As an example, if you smoke your needs are likely to be greater. In addition to this, did you know that if you exercise consistently, at increased intensities, then your needs is also elevated? This is due to the fact that vitamins (AKA antioxidants) are required to neutralise the damaging by-products created as we use oxygen. Intense exercise increases oxygen consumption and therefore, increases potentially damaging waste products called free radicals.

A further valuable element to note is the manufacturing process of the supplement. As supplements only need to be manufactured to food standards to comply with industry laws, it is often difficult for manufacturers to control exactly what is put in to their nutritionals. Products could get contaminated, or may not have identical ingredients in each individual capsule and we ideally need consistency!

As a former personal trainer I believe that it is better to provide our body with a surplus, providing the levels we consume are not in toxic dosages. By providing our body with more than it needs, it can use as much as it requires and reject what is not required. Vitamins and minerals that are not needed are excreted and so will not negatively affect our health.

Some nutritional products manufacturers produce supplements to pharmaceutical grade standards, so they have better control of the consistency of each tablet. This also dramatically decreases the likelihood of contamination with harmful, or illegal substances. With this noted, I also suggest selecting nutritional products that are manufactured to a pharmaceutical standard.

To summarise, it is best selecting pharmaceutical grade nutritional products, which provide advanced amounts of nutrients.
